Dan Castellanos provides insights into USP Compliance in this all-new episode

In this new episode of Framework Focus, Dr. Mark Fulton sits down with Dan Castellanos from Acute Care Pharmaceuticals to delve into the critical aspects of USP 797/800 compliance. Dan shares his background and career journey before discussing the role of Acute Care Pharmaceuticals in supporting pharmacies with sterile and hazardous drug compounding.

“(Acute Care) did at one point sell pharmaceuticals,” Castellanos noted. “However, when USP started introducing enforcement of 797 & 800, we actually made that pivot to USP-compliant products. (We are) making gowns, gloves, sterile disinfectants… all the different things that surround ensuring the pharmacy clean room is actually clean. That’s what we are all about.”

Throughout this episode, listeners will gain insights into the importance of sterile compounding, the challenges of maintaining USP 797 compliance, and the pitfalls to avoid. Dan also explains the identification and management of hazardous drugs, highlighting the significance of USP 800 compliance.

“It’s pretty clear cut on what’s necessary to keep an environment clean and sterile,” Castellanos said. “How I think that compliance is enforced definitely boils down to the state level. Every state has its board of pharmacy and they will get checked every so often depending on what the state requires… to ensure they are following (USP guidelines) to the ‘T’.”

The episode wraps up with a look at future trends in USP guidelines and their environmental impact. Tune in for an informative discussion on ensuring pharmacy compliance in these essential areas.
