MHA’s Michelle Templin Sits Down with Todd Eury to Discuss Legislation

In this insightful episode of FrameworkFocus™, we welcome a special guest host, Todd Eury, from the Pharmacy Podcast Network. Michelle Templin, the Senior Vice President of Strategy & Legislative Affairs at Managed Healthcare Associates, joins Todd for this all-important conversation. Together, they delve into the ever-evolving legislative landscape and its profound impact on the Long-Term Care Pharmacy industry. From recent regulatory shifts to upcoming policy changes, Todd and Michelle provide expert analysis to help you stay ahead in a complex and dynamic environment.

“The IRA (Inflation Reduction Act) and the Drug Price Negotiation Program get the biggest amount of press out there… but we’re also paying an equal amount of attention to Part D Redesign that actually kicks in next year, “ Michelle Templin noted. “It dramatically changes the financials behind how the Part D’s are funded, behind out-of-pocket cap expenses for the beneficiaries, and really needs to be fully understood by the pharmacies.”

Templin noted that these types of changes are nothing new in the industry, but knowing about and anticipating them is beneficial for the pharmacy. Tighter constraints on formularies and additional steps on prior authorization are some of the tangible items that will impact the entire LTC ecosystem.

“The IRA (Inflation Reduction Act) is a major piece of significant legislation. I’m not going to try to downplay that,” Michelle remarked. “It’s probably the biggest thing to happen to the pharmacy since the Medicare Modernization Act, and it’s going to bring changes.”

This exciting conversation features all of this and more. Listen to the full discussion between Michelle and Todd to ensure your pharmacy is informed about the upcoming changes and how they will impact day-to-day operations.
