Written by Mitchell Ross | Nov 10, 2025 1:00:00 PM

SoftWriters has officially launched Alpha Labs, a dedicated cross-functional innovation team charged with charting the optimal path to unlock the full potential of AI and automation across our product suite.

This initiative represents a major step forward in the ongoing effort to reimagine how technology can transform long-term care pharmacy operations. The Alpha Labs team is uniquely positioned to explore, experiment, and accelerate breakthrough ideas before transitioning validated solutions to our core product teams for full-scale integration.

“Our AI roadmap is broad and deep, built on extensive research and clear opportunities across our product suite,” said Scott Beatty, President & CEO of SoftWriters. “To fully realize this potential, we need a focused team to refine and shape the work ahead. Alpha Labs will drive this prioritization, ensuring we direct our energy toward the highest-impact opportunities.”

The Team Behind the Vision

Alpha Labs brings together talent from across multiple departments within SoftWriters—each member contributing unique expertise and perspectives from their previous roles:

  • Danielle Greer, VP of Product (Team Lead)

  • Rick Pollick, Product Release Manager

  • Terry Dean, Director, Product Operations and Execution

  • Judson Weissert, Senior Software Engineer

  • Kevin Campbell, Agile Product Owner

  • Kyle Nilson, Business Analyst

  • Lisa Miller, Sr. Principal Product Analyst

Together, this diverse team embodies collaboration, curiosity, and a shared passion for solving customer challenges in new ways.

“We’re getting out of the status quo for how we solve problems for our customers,” said Danielle Greer.

“It’s nice being able to think outside of the box on problems,” added Terry Dean. “Everyone comes with their skills, and you can contribute anywhere on the project—you don’t have to just be what your title says.”

First Up: AI Order Entry Automation

Alpha Labs’ first initiative—AI Order Entry Automation—is already in alpha testing with LI Script Pharmacy in New York. This project aims to automate and streamline order entry within FrameworkLTC, reducing manual steps, minimizing errors, and freeing pharmacy staff to focus more on patient care.

“LI Script is committed to staying at the forefront of innovation to support progress in a constantly evolving industry,” said Diane Pupa, Pharmacy Implementation & EMAR Specialist, LI Script Pharmacy. “Working with the team on the AI project has been a great experience. Everyone’s been open to our ideas and concerns, which has made the process really collaborative. We’re excited to see how the final product will come together, combining tech and healthcare to create something that can truly make a difference for patients and pharmacies.”

Looking ahead, Alpha Labs will continue exploring new AI-powered capabilities, including identifying key data fields within FrameworkLTC to “turn on” AI and visually indicate AI-assisted fields within the user interface.

What Excites the Team

The enthusiasm within Alpha Labs is palpable. Team members describe it as a space where experimentation, creativity, and collaboration thrive.

  • “It starts out greenfield… greenfield development is fun.” – Judson Weissert

  • “We’ve told the whole company, ‘think AI first.’ When I actually started doing that, it unlocked the door to things I didn’t know I could do.” – Kyle Nilson

  • “We have the space and time allocated to think about these things. We’re not doing it on the side.” – Rick Pollick

  • “AI will increase operational efficiencies… None of these problems are new. They’re problems that customers have been working on for years. Now we’re able to solve them.” – Lisa Miller

A Bold Step Forward

Alpha Labs represents SoftWriters’ commitment to innovation and continuous improvement—ensuring our customers benefit from the most advanced, practical, and impactful technologies available.

“What excites us most about incorporating AI into software is its potential to dramatically enhance efficiency, improve patient outcomes through smarter decision support, streamline workflows, automate complex tasks, and adapt to user behavior in real time,” added Diane Pupa of LI Script. “It’s transforming how software delivers value and evolves with user needs—all while saving time and reducing errors.”

As Alpha Labs continues to evolve, one thing is certain: this team is helping shape the future of pharmacy technology.
