Company Overview

Institutional Pharmacies of Louisiana (IPL) serves medical institutions throughout Louisiana—ranging from nursing homes to long-term acute care (LTAC) facilities, psychiatric hospitals, physical rehabilitation hospitals, and correctional facilities. IPL’s focus is on providing low-priced, real-world solutions for a variety of facilities within the long-term care industry. IPL is a single-source solution that supplies acute care institutions with high-quality pharmaceuticals, intravenous (IV ) drugs, and medical supplies with superior customer service and on-demand delivery.

The Challenge: Lack of Efficiency

With tens of thousands of labels for thousands of carts and LTC facilities across the state, there was a dire need to increase efficiency and reduce dispensing errors for medications. One route evaluated was additional computer terminals, but the extra expense and training were not optimal.

When it came to increasing the efficiency of getting medications out the door, “we needed a simple solution for toting, packaging, scanning, and other tasks,” said Brad Fanguy, Pharmacy Manager of IPL.

The Solution: FrameworkFlow

To increase packing efficiency and avoid the need for additional computer terminals, IPL implemented FrameworkFlow, an industry-leading barcode scanner technology that helps to increase efficiency, improve accuracy, and eliminate dispensing errors with scanned drug verification, even when you are not in front of your FrameworkLTC workstation. Used on a handheld device, FrameworkFlow connects to FrameworkLTC anywhere in the pharmacy, allowing you to design and change the physical pharmacy layout based on workflow instead of workstations. This helps to increase efficiency by reducing the time it takes to package medications.

The Results: Streamlined Operations

FrameworkFlow was the ideal solution to meet IPL’s need for increased efficiency without unnecessary expenses:

  1. FrameworkFlow saved IPL from spending thousands of dollars on new computer stations.

  2. It was easy to train new staff members on medication fulfillment.

  3. FrameworkFlow reduces the need for handwritten fulfillment packing slips.

  4. Unlike personal phones, mobile devices using FrameworkFlow never need to leave the pharmacy.

  5. IPL has seen a reduction in fulfillment errors through audible notifications.

“FrameworkFlow helps our people get their jobs done quicker. We don’t have a need for 3 or 4 more computer terminals. And if there’s an error in the fulfillment, it’s programmed to immediately notify the user.”

— Brad Fanguy, Pharmacy Manager, IPL
