What is “LTC Pharmacy”?
When most people think of pharmacies, the picture that often comes to mind is of large retail chains or family-owned main street pharmacies stocked with convenience items and over-the-counter remedies. Unlike these retail and community pharmacies, long-term care (LTC) pharmacies are closed to the public and exclusively serve the patient populations of the long-term care facilities they serve. These facilities range from a wide array of environments including nursing homes, group homes, correctional facilities, and hospice care facilities to name a few.

A Rich History 100% Focused on Long-Term Care Pharmacy
Recently celebrating our 30 year anniversary, SoftWriters is the most experienced and dedicated software organization serving the long-term care pharmacy community. While other pharmacy management software vendors got their start in retail or split their focus between a variety of environments, our entire organization and pool of resources are solely focused on meeting the unique needs faced by long-term care pharmacies.
Founding and Early-Stage Growth
1990 - 2015
Founded in 1990 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania by a small team of developers, SoftWriters was created with the intention of bringing to market a solution that would meet the needs of the underserved and unequipped long-term care pharmacy market. As LTC pharmacies began to proliferate, there was no electronic solution that was fully equipped to meet their evolving needs in the digital era. SoftWriters aimed to meet that need and did so when they released FrameworkLTC. While this first release is nearly unrecognizable compared to what it is today, FrameworkLTC has become a staple in the LTC pharmacy community and is the industry’s leading pharmacy management software. Today, more than 15,000 users and over 700 pharmacies trust FrameworkLTC to manage every step of their daily operations.
2015 - 2020
Growth and Maturity
As our product offering, customer base, and market share quickly expanded, it became clear that to fully unlock the growth and potential that the marketplace and our customers demanded, further investment into the organization was needed. This investment was secure in 2015 when SoftWriters was acquired by Roper Technologies (NASDAQ: ROP).
Fully equipped with the resources and investment capital required to scale, we rapidly grew our team and product offering to advance from a startup venture to a mature market leader. With this investment capital and newfound focus, SoftWriters was able to expand its product offerings with the release of 3 new products, FrameworkPOD, FrameworkFlow, and FrameworkECM, to address several crucial challenges our customers needed to overcome.
Additionally, SoftWriters welcomed the addition of Scott Beatty as CFO in 2016. Bringing leadership experience from enterprise organizations including GE and IBM, Scott took over the role of COO in 2018 and eventually stepped into an executive leadership position as President in 2020.
Agility & Growth in the Face of Covid-19
2020 - 2021
2020 will be remembered, for everyone, as the year of vaccinations. As businesses everywhere and everyday life as we knew it ground to a halt, SoftWriters was faced with the undeniable truth that the pharmacies that relied on our products needed our support now more than ever. SoftWriters answered the call and got to work.
In response to the regulations and recommendations that changed on a near-weekly basis, we released the Framework health data submission service, which empowered our customers to track and document vaccinations to ensure their staff and patients were fully protected and compliant.
Not only did our doors stay open, but we also released a brand-new product, FrameworkVision, to the market. FrameworkVision empowered our customers to communicate with their LTC facility customers and marked SoftWriters’ first fully web-based product offering.
2022
New Leadership, New Vision
In 2022, Softwriters continued to advance our product offering with the release of FrameworkRxP, a built-from-the-ground-up, web-based successor to RxPertise, the leading Medication Regimen Review software solution on the market. In addition to this new product, 2022 was a year where SoftWriters focused on value-added partner integrations, including MediProcity, which brought secure messaging, streamlined communications, and improved facility and pharmacy visibility to FrameworkVision.
Not only did we continue to bring brand new offerings to the market, we invested deeply in our focus on the future with the addition of 3 leaders to the executive team hailing from some of the most well-known and respected healthcare software organizations and LTC pharmacies in the nation.
